Rant: Don't Explain Your Art to Death

If your art needs to be explained, there is the danger of the explanation being better than the art itself.

In art, the fear of being shallow is worse than shallowness itself..

Reinventing the Chair

A micro-manufacturing project featuring a line of chairs: A couple of lounge chairs, a director's chair, a bench, and a bar stool, ... all built around, of course, the LYROIS shapes.

The sixth Lyrois chair, is a reunion of twins, for Garden & Patio, #16.

Chair #16 is based on the original Lyrois shape #16, a very special garden & patio chair, it's a metamorphosis of two models, each one of them made from the same shape, one side being upright and the opposing side being upside-down.

Polar Typography

I found the initial four in an old sketch book and took it from there. The whole project is an exploration of analysis vs. synthesis culminating in total deconstruction. As in taking it apart and putting it back together without really knowing what goes where.

These are for sale, each one of them separately or the whole set as a series of thirteen.

The Puppet Master

Cut from paper and suspended on nylon lines. (Based on the original Lyrois shape #11.)

At some point, I may rewrite the Lyrois story since basically it is a form of puppetry, the shapes are puppets, I'm a puppeteer. Again, it's a matter of perspective.

Luxury Graffiti

Like graffiti, the public landscape is the canvas to work on.

Unlike graffiti, the Lyrois pieces pick up the pattern of the underlying architecture and highlight both canvas and artwork.

Reinventing the Chair

Chair #10 is based on the original Lyrois shape #10, a coffeehouse and lounge design piece.

Wallpaper: Electric Shapes

After playing with repetitive shapes on skatedecks, here are the electric patterns again.

Printed on water-resistant billboard paper or on self-adhesive, non water-resistant standard paper, for outdoor walls, it is possible to produce wallpapers on glossy or matte vinyl.

Silhouettes Mural Limited Edition Vinyl Series

This special miniature edition is executed in matte black and glossy Lyrois signature-purple vinyl on 2mm foam-board, scratch-signed and numbered.

Gobos 2009

Playing with shadows. What you see is the acrylic plate with the updated shapes for some shadow-work.

Skatedecks: The High Voltage Series

The Lyrois High Voltage Series glows with electricity (in your and my imagination) and makes a great collector's wall tiling (in reality).

After releasing two snowboard series from the 2009/10 menu (Spectators and Twins) this is the latest drop of decks in powerful colors.

The Lyrois Companion

While the first release was made from vinyl, the new ones are black-opaque acrylic, with a glossy, glass-like appearance on the front-side and a height of 3".

Tableaux 1

12 Tableaux, matte-black vinyl with glossy-colored shapes, 40 cm × 50 cm × 5 mm.

In 1997, Alexander Becker drew a bunch of shapes, 17 figures gathered around the silhouette of a dancer. Since then, they come back, year after year, in always different styles and designs, ...
