This is the story of John T. Unger --
I need your help. My original art has been copied by a manufacturer who is now suing me in federal court to overturn my existing copyrights and continue making knockoffs. I have a strong case, a great lawyer and believe that if I can continue to defend myself, the case will be resolved in my favor. If I run out of funds before we reach trial, a default judgment would be issued against me and could put me out of business. I don't believe my opponent can win this case in court and I don't believe he really intends to try. I believe his goal is to use strong-arm litigation tactics to force me to keep spending money or risk losing my copyrights — not by true adjudication, but by default if he is able to outspend me.
Read all about how an imitator sues an artist to overturn copyrights.
The idea is to have art donated from artists all over the world to feed the Legal Defense Fund --
Two special editions made as series of 10, with #000 and #001 being retained as artist's proof and the remaining #002 through #009 donated to support John T. Unger's Legal Defense Fund in his quest to defend himself and art in general.
The pieces are scratch-signed and numbered on the back, and accompanied by a printed and signed certificate documenting its story and origin. No more pieces of these editions will ever be made.
The Aluminum Series come in 140 × 55mm, are executed in matte black (upper part) and glossy black (lower part) vinyl on 2mm aluminum --

Introducing Lyrois' architectural essays, conversations between architecture and art --

The vision: Lyrois shapes in public spaces. (Backstory)
The plan: Using our beloved glass, steel, and concrete as the perfect canvas to create a dialogue between static architecture and dynamic art.
Looking for and at glass, steel, and concrete; there is one artist -- architect -- who provides iconic, clean, and clear structures and patterns to pick up and play with: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
Granite or concrete?
Mies planned to use granite for an element of the entrance for the IIT. The president of the Institute suggested using less expensive concrete stating that the granite was barely visible anyway. Mies retorted: Concrete instead of granite you would see and asked the president to raise more money instead -- eventually he built with granite.(Related by Swiss architect Otto Kolb)
The inspiration: Linear divisions, spatial proportions, as well as details like huge pieces of marble cut in symmetrical patterns.
Like graffiti, the public landscape is the canvas to work on.
Unlike graffiti, the Lyrois pieces pick up the pattern of the underlying architecture and highlight both canvas and artwork.
The print-edition catalogue with all 14 works is available either as a PDF-file or in actual, real paper.
Selected works are available as limited-edition, high-quality prints.
Artwork may be ordered as-is or privately commissioned and custom-tailored to your environmental structure, color-scale, and local setting.

From very high-res vector graphics to low-res pixels in favicons.
Let's see how much we have to remove until the bare minimum, the essence, is left and exposed. Let's see how much we can remove. Let's see what we have to sacrifice on the way.
Check this out: 16 × 16px --

This is the original pic in 320 × 320px --

While the subject of this post is to announce the new favicon -- the little icon that is displayed in your browser's address bar, to the left of this page's URL and in your browser's bookmark list -- it brings along the beauty of simplification.
Here is the 16 × 16px version again, this time enlarged to 320 × 320px --

Now, please go back as far as your room allows and compare the two.
The design of the reduced version of that shape interpretes and translates the characteristics and lines of the original vector graphic. The original flow must survive the reduction in order to recognize the high-res fluid strokes beyond the hard and purposefully not anti-aliased 16 × 16 pixel-grid.
Does it work for you?
